//POSTMORTEM// Heatwave!
Hi! I attempted to spark an idea for a game with this jam! And it was quite successful! However, right as I got into the game I had to take on extra shifts at my day jobs. A heatwave hit my area making my apartment about 100 degrees constantly. Mixing these two with some personal life stress and I literally couldn't move myself to my computer.
So I didn't get to finish this even as a tech demo as much as I wanted to.
BUT! All is not lost! There's still some work done here! Enough for me to keep working on it. So stay tuned for more updates on this little project. For now there's a little intro to give player's some context to the game and their goal. Then you're thrown into a world with a few things you can consume and a few randomizations within the world.
There's only flowers, trees; and some rocks to consume at the moment. Not too exciting I know! And the growth system is a more fixed system for showcasing and not the one I'll be using moving forward.
Let's talk about the future!
UPDATE 1: Growing Pains
I want to make the slime's growth completely procedural! Right now it's a fixed rate for 3 stages for the sake of showcasing how I want it to work. In this first update getting that to work will be the only focus.
This will also need new camera code, stat modification code; and a lot of time put into it to make it work right.
UPDATE 2: Instruction is Advised
There's currently not a lot of direction or interface in the project. This is due to completion restraints, I focused more on the gameplay and style than a smooth UX in-game. This update will add in more interface where needed, clearer interface; and button prompts.
Update 3: Darwinism of a Slime
A HUGE part of this game was having the slime develop dependent on what you consume! This is going to add in some more of that! It'll add in attributes actually changing how the slime operates and looks.
Example: Each object has a primary color/texture. After so much growth the game will take that primary color/texture and apply it to the slime. This will change how you look! After longer periods of time primary cosmetic changes like branches, crystals, moss; etc will become a core part of your slime.
Not only will the visual change; but so will your gameplay! If you eat a lot of plants you will be weaker to fire, if its more heavy plants like trees you'll grow heavier but more durable. So this system will make each run a unique experience you'll have to learn to manipulate in your favor.
Update 4: King of Slimes; the new sensation!
If you've played my game even the jam edition you'll be greeted by a little prologue about the game Eternal Blades. The story and world building doesn't end there! This update will add more to that and keep the story going!
If I can make it through these updates and still want to keep pushing the game; more will come!
